Job Summary

We are seeking a qualified and experienced middle school boys basketball practice coach to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in teaching and coaching, as well as knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

Coaching Responsibilities

• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for individual and team success
• Formulate moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence
• Provide instruction that leads to the development of these values

Administrative Responsibilities

• Have a thorough knowledge of athletic policies approved by the Denison Board of Education and responsibility for its implementation
• Understand existing system, state, and league regulations and implement them consistently
• Interpret regulations for staff
• Attend public/staff/departmental meetings as required
• Engage in professional growth through attending clinics according to local clinic policy

Operational Responsibilities

• Maintain discipline, adjust grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation
• Assist activities director and head coach with scheduling, transportation, and tournament preparations
• Assist with coordinating programs with maintenance and school employees
• Provide proper safeguards for equipment and sites
• Train athletes on rules and regulations of the sport
• Assist participants at all practices, games, and while traveling
• Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies
• Direct student managers, assistants, and statisticians
• Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' office, authorizing who may enter, and issuing or requisitioning equipment
• Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games to ensure cleanliness
• Secure doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving the building if custodians are not on duty
• Instill respect for equipment and school property in each player
• Promote the sport within and outside the school through various channels
• Maintain good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year to be established by the board and master contract.
